The countdown to summer has officially started, which means it’s time to plan your summer bucket list. As a British Columbia resident, we’re spoiled when it comes to fun summer events and thrilling outdoor activities. Read on for 8 unforgettable experiences you could have this summer if back pain wasn’t in your way.

 

1) Take free salsa lessons at Robson Square

Grab a partner and dust off those dancing shoes. Every Sunday in July and August, Robson Square hosts free outdoor salsa lessons. Lessons start at 3pm and are taught by some of Vancouver’s top salsa instructors. After, stay for performances by talented dancers.

 

2) Climb BC’s highest treehouse in the Enchanted Forest

Nestled between Revelstoke and Sicamous on the Trans-Canada Highway is the Enchanted Forest. This magical old growth forest is home to a 50-foot treehouse (the tallest in the province), a massive cedar stump house, a castle, dungeons, and more.

3) Conquer St. Mark’s Summit

Outdoor enthusiasts won’t want to miss hiking St. Mark’s Summit. Following the Howe Sound Crest Trail, this beloved 11km roundtrip hike will make you feel on top of the world with its jaw-dropping views overlooking the Howe Sound islands, Tantalus Range, and Vancouver Island.

4) Pick fruit in the Okanagan

The entire family will have a blast harvesting their own fruit at a variety of U-Pick Farms in the Okanagan Valley. Cherries can be picked starting in early June, followed by peaches, plums, and apricots.

 

5) Join Tough Mudder

Looking for a challenge and not afraid of getting dirty? Sign up for Whistler’s Tough Mudder. This team competition takes place in June, and includes 10 miles of mud and over 20 obstacles that test both your physical and mental strength.

6) Kayak in Deep Cove

Deep Cove is a paddler’s heaven. Kayak, canoe, or paddleboard through this gorgeous 25km fjord to witness rugged mountains and reach remote beaches. Wildlife is abundant in this area so keep your eyes peeled for eagles, seals, starfish, and more.

 

7) Surf waves in Tofino

Situated on Vancouver Island, Tofino is the surfing capital of Canada and caters to surfers of all skill levels. Its beaches have plush sand and smaller waves, making it a great place for beginners to learn. Seasoned pros can paddle farther out for bigger waves.

 

8) Enjoy camping in Haida Gwaii

No summer is complete without sitting at a campfire and roasting marshmallows. To experience the best of the great outdoors, pitch a tent in Haida Gwaii and enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, biking, golfing, ziplining, and whale watching.
