3 Steps to recovery after a car accident

Car accidents are stressful, recovery shouldn’t be. If you’re not sure what to do after a crash, check out these tips to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

Contact ICBC

If you’ve been injured in a car accident, the first thing you need to do is contact ICBC and submit a claim. Claims can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week online or by calling 604-520-8222.

When your claim gets processed, you will receive an ICBC insurance claim number. This claim number means you’re automatically approved for 12 registered massage therapy treatments, 12 acupuncture treatments, 12 chiropractic treatments, and 25 physiotherapy sessions.

Remember, it doesn’t matter who is at fault for the crash, all parties involved are eligible for medical benefits.

Start a treatment plan

It’s important to seek treatment within a few days of your accident as this will speed up your recovery time. Our practitioners are ready to help you bounce back from injury as quick as possible.

Physiotherapy

Unlike other clinics, we offer one-on-one physiotherapy treatments. During your uninterrupted 30 or 60-minute session, you will receive the full attention of your physiotherapist. This type of personalized treatment allows your physiotherapist to create a tailored and all-inclusive treatment plan based on your specific condition. It also results in more productive treatment sessions with plenty of time for supervised exercise and manual techniques.

Massage Therapy

Using a variety of techniques including myofascial release and joint mobilization, our registered massage therapists reduce discomfort caused by injury, illness, and daily stress. They can also provide you with long-term solutions including rehabilitative exercises such as stretching, strengthening, postural exercises, and patient education.

See your doctor

You do not need to see a doctor before starting treatment for soft tissue injuries. However, it is a good idea to visit shortly after your accident so your doctor has a record of your injuries on file. This will play an important part in the settlement of your claim.

A doctor’s referral is only necessary if the accident occurred over three months ago, or if you are requesting an extension of treatments beyond the allocated sessions.

All of us at Royal Treatment Therapeutics are here for you during every step of your recovery journey. If you have any questions about rehabilitation support, please send us an email or call 604-437-7777. We can also contact ICBC for you if you’re unsure about your coverage. All we need from you is your claim number, BC Services Card number, and adjuster’s name and contact information.
